Spiritual Abuse Counseling & Consultation

You may be struggling to know how to process the things you’ve experienced in your religious community.

you feel crazy, and you don’t know if anyone can understand.

Religious trauma impacts the whole person and can cause us to question ourselves, others, and our faith. You may have experienced betrayal from close friends or family, harsh controlling religious leaders, and being isolated — all in the name of righteousness.

This inevitably can lead to wondering who God really is, how he sees you, or even whether he exists at all. My training, plus my personal experience of spiritual abuse (you can listen to my story here), have convinced me that the way past trauma is through the pain, the questions, the grief, the rage, the depression, and doubts.

This is where we step onto a path toward freedom, healing, and flourishing. But we can’t do this alone. I’d love to help.

I offer individual care, group care, and consultation for anyone seeking to process confusing or painful situations in religious communities. I also provide institutional consultation for organizations, churches, or companies that want to work toward systemic transparency, truth, and healing.

Do any of these resonate?

Struggling with questioning your entire belief system - or maybe you are clinging to God but wondering how people who call themselves Christians could behave so badly.

Feeling lonely, ashamed, and isolated spiritually - there doesn’t seem to be a religious community that feels safe for the type of confusion and agony you’re experiencing.

Looking to understand how to label what it was you went through or are going through in your faith/church —maybe you’re not sure if what happened to you even was spiritual abuse.

You’re part of a religious community (as a member or leader) and see major problems, but aren’t sure what to do or how to move forward.

Here’s what we’ll do together

A 50-min spiritual trauma consultation can help assess your needs and find care.

I bring personal life experience of leaving an abusive evangelical SBC church (you can listen to my story here), as well as staying connected to the online community of other religious trauma survivors.

My formal training includes EMDR, Polyvagal Theory, Ego State therapy, and Bowen Family Systems, but I’m constantly reading and learning new approaches and skills. I have a Masters degree in clinical counseling, and I am professionally licensed by the state boards in Missouri and Florida.

My goal is to connect you or your community with the care you need, including helping you find providers near you if needed.

In working with me, you can expect a personalized, warm, and compassionate space with evidence-based approaches and a deep respect for your story, your faith, and your goals.
